"Two-time HBO "Def Poet" and National Poetry Slam Champion Big Poppa E will slam Las Vegas Thursday, October 20, at the Freakin' Frog (4800 South Maryland Parkway). Show starts at 8 p.m. Admission is free ($5 to compete in the poetry slam).
"I love Vegas, man, and I can't wait to rock the mic in Sin City again!" exclaims Big Poppa E, widely known for his tongue-in-cheek magnum opus "The Wussy Boy Manifesto."
"The Las Vegas scene is so hot right now, and you wouldn't think that was the case, but it's a great poetry city! This show is going to completely destroy everyone's concept of poetry as something boring meant for study in a classroom. This is pure rock and roll, and Las Vegas knows that in spades!" he said.
BPE's high-energy melding of performance poetry, stand-up comedy, and dramatic monologue has garnered much acclaim, with The New York Times praising him as "exuberantly defiant" and The Washington Post calling his work "revenge of the Wussy Boys!"

The Freakin' Frog show will be a qualifier for the Las Vegas Poetry Slam Team, which will send a five-person crew of local poets to the National Poetry Slam in Austin, Texas, next August. Widely known in the Poetry Slam community as one of the most exuberant scenes in America, the Las Vegas Slam stands a good chance of finishing in the top ranks of nearly 100 slams across the country.
